On the sidelines of the 79th General Assembly and Congress of the International Military Sports Council, held in Dar es Salaam from 12th to 19th May 2024, the African continental meeting convened to deliberate on key strategic issues concerning military sport across the region.
A major highlight of the meeting was the confirmation of Major General Abdullahi Maikano as President of the Organisation of Military Sport in Africa (OSMA) and as the sole African candidate for the position of CISM Vice-President for Africa. This endorsement followed his re-election as OSMA President in Abuja, and was unanimously supported by the Chief Delegates present.
The meeting also addressed the filling of two vacant African positions on the CISM Board of Directors. Simon Nyowani was co-opted for a one-year mandate, pending elections scheduled to take place in Colombo. In addition, Sega Sissoko was duly elected as a member of the CISM Board of Directors for a four-year term.
Furthermore, the Nigerian delegation officially confirmed the hosting of the 2nd African Military Games (AMGA), scheduled for November 2024 in Abuja. Invitation files were distributed to all participating delegations, marking a significant step forward in preparations for this major continental sporting event.
