The Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) held its 8th General Assembly in Abuja – Nigeria From the 24th February to 3rd March 2024.
The Nigerian Delegation to OSMA successfully hosted the working sessions of the 8th OSMA General Assembly under the High Patronage of His Excellency BOLA Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Local Organising Committee, under the able leadership of the Nigerian Chief Delegate Air Vice Marshall AT Marquis, spared no effort to render the stay of the entire OSMA Delegations a memorable one with the introduction of the Novelty Football match between Team OSMA and Team CDS, which thrilled the public and procured much fun amongst the delegations present. What stands out clearly from this OSMA statutory meeting is that it beats all records of OSMA Assembly attendance, with more than 27 Countries present.
Fruitful resolutions were adopted to foster OSMA's activities, with the re-election of Major General Abdullahi Maikano as OSMA President and CISM Vice President for Africa being prominent.
In attendance were various officials of the Nigerian Ministry of Defense, including the Minister of Defense Hon. Dr. Muhammed Bello Matawalle and Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff General CG Musa, ambassadors, Chief delegates and delegates from 27 member states which are Nigeria, South Sudan, Congo Brazzaville, Congo Kinshasa, Eritrea, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Chad, Bulkina Faso, South Africa, Botswana, Guinea Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritania, Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Morocco and Ghana. Also, CISM President Col Nilton Rolim ( Brazil, CISM Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia ( Italy), CISM /OSMA Ambassador Col Mamby Koita ( Guinea), OSMA Secretary General Lt Col Pierre Djendola were in attendance at this special occasion.
During the Closing Ceremony, Colonel Bakari, who is the Director of the Military World Games, the African Liaison Officer, and the Tanzanian Representative at the Secretariat of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) and a host of other Nigerian Dignitaries were conferred the OSMA Order of Merit award for their distinctive contribution and valuable efforts in spreading military diplomacy in their various domains.
