The President of the Organisation of Military Sport in Africa (OSMA), in collaboration with senior Nigerian military authorities, conducted a three-day working visit in Abuja, Nigeria. The high-level meeting brought together representatives from fifteen African countries, alongside a delegation from the International Military Sports Council headquarters, reflecting the strategic importance of the engagement.

This visit served as a prelude to the forthcoming OSMA Solidarity Games for the Sahel region, scheduled to take place in Abuja in early October. Discussions focused on revitalising OSMA’s activities and defining a clear path forward for the organisation, particularly amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key issues relating to OSMA’s operations, development, and future direction were thoroughly examined. The outcomes and resolutions of these deliberations were formally documented in a final communiqué and shared with all Chief Delegates.

A series of high-level courtesy engagements with leading Nigerian political and military authorities further marked the visit. Meetings were held with the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, the Minister in charge of Special Duties at the Presidency, as well as senior leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces, including the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff.

All authorities expressed strong support for OSMA’s initiatives and reaffirmed their commitment to hosting the Sahel Solidarity Games. They also conveyed their readiness to welcome participating nations to Abuja for this important event promoting peace, cooperation, and regional solidarity.
